Job Overview and Responsibilities

• Respond quickly to emergency calls and provide immediate medical assistance.
• Assess patients by evaluating vital signs, medical history and physical condition.
• Administer intermediate level emergency medical treatment according to approved protocols.
• Perform airway management, oxygen therapy and medication administration where required.
• Carry out basic and selected advanced life support procedures, including cardiac monitoring and defibrillation.
• Stabilise patients before and during transportation to healthcare facilities.
• Operate emergency response vehicles and medical equipment safely and efficiently.
• Maintain emergency medical equipment to ensure operational readiness.
• Accurately document patient assessments, treatments and medical records.
• Communicate professionally with patients, families, healthcare facilities and emergency personnel.
• Comply with infection control, health and safety regulations and operational procedures.
• Participate in ongoing training and professional development to maintain skills and certification.

Requirements and Skills

• Registered Intermediate Life Support (ILS) Paramedic with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
• Valid driver’s licence with a minimum Code B licence. Code C1 will be advantageous.
• Sound knowledge of emergency medical procedures and treatment protocols.
• Strong clinical assessment and patient care skills.
• Excellent decision-making and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to remain calm and perform effectively in high-pressure emergency situations.
• Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of an emergency response team.
• High level of professionalism, integrity and compassion.
