Dispensary Support Fixed Term Opportunity at Dis-Chem Goodwood

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is offering a Fixed Term Dispensary Support opportunity at its Goodwood store in Cape Town, Western Cape. This programme is designed for learners who want to begin a career in the pharmaceutical industry by completing the Learner Basic Pharmacist Assistant course. Successful candidates will receive practical workplace training while working under the supervision of qualified pharmacists. Once registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) and qualified as a Basic Pharmacist Assistant, candidates may be considered for permanent employment.

Job Overview And Responsibilities

• Participate in workplace learning while completing the Learner Basic Pharmacist Assistant programme
• Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines under the direct supervision of a pharmacist
• Support the compounding, preparation and handling of non sterile medicines according to approved procedures
• Assist with unpacking, merchandising and organising dispensary stock
• Maintain the cleanliness and organisation of dispensary and over the counter shelves
• Learn to interpret prescriptions accurately while complying with SAPC regulations
• Assist with picking, packing, labelling and checking medication for dispensing
• Ensure all medication is checked and approved by a pharmacist before being issued
• Help manage pharmacy stock, monitor expiry dates and maintain proper shelf organisation
• Follow up with patients regarding prescriptions and scheduled appointments when required
• Assist with patient telephone calls and call centre related pharmacy services
• Provide basic health information and support to patients under supervision
• Assist with authorisations for chronic, HIV, AIDS and oncology medication
• Report low stock levels, stock shortages and stock discrepancies to the Dispensary Manager
• Receive and organise pharmacy stock according to company standard operating procedures

Requirements And Skills

• Grade 12, Matric or Senior Certificate
• Pure Mathematics with a minimum of 50 percent
• Life Sciences and or Physical Science with an average of at least 50 percent
• Ability to successfully complete the SAPC proficiency test required for learner registration
• Strong communication skills in English and a second language
• Good customer service and interpersonal skills
• Computer literacy and sound numerical ability
• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Good listening, problem solving and conflict management skills
• Honest, trustworthy and professional work ethic
• Ability to work effectively within a team environment
• South African citizenship
• Clear criminal and credit record
