Job Overview

The Baker is responsible for producing a wide range of bakery items that meet company standards for taste, quality, and presentation. You will follow set recipes, manage baking schedules, and ensure products are ready for display and sale throughout the day. The role includes maintaining bakery cleanliness, monitoring ingredient usage, and supporting efficient workflow in the department. You will also interact with customers, assist with queries, and help drive bakery sales through quality products and service. This position requires consistency, attention to detail, and strong discipline in food preparation.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, bake, and finish bakery products according to recipes and standards
• Ensure all baked goods meet quality, freshness, and presentation requirements
• Follow strict ingredient selection and production methods
• Maintain bakery merchandising standards and product display flow
• Keep product categories organised and visually appealing
• Assist customers with bakery related queries and requests
• Provide friendly and attentive customer service at all times
• Promote bakery products to support sales targets
• Follow hygiene and food safety procedures during all production stages
• Perform deep cleaning of equipment and work areas after production
• Ensure all baking equipment is cleaned and maintained properly
• Report equipment faults and safety concerns immediately
• Support production planning based on sales trends and wastage analysis
• Assist with stock control and ingredient monitoring
• Work collaboratively with team members to ensure smooth operations

Requirements And Skills

• Grade 12 (Matric)
• NQF Level 2 Craft Baking qualification or equivalent advantage
• In store practical baking experience or training beneficial
• Strong understanding of baking processes and recipes
• Good attention to detail and consistency in production
• Ability to follow instructions accurately
• Strong hygiene and food safety awareness
• Ability to work in a fast paced retail environment
• Good customer service and communication skills
• Ability to manage time and meet production schedules
• Team player with a strong work ethic
• Physical ability to stand for long hours and handle bakery equipment
• Willingness to learn and improve baking skills
