Touching Tributes Pour In for DJ, Publicist and Fashion Designer Maria McCloy. South Africa woke up to the sad news of Maria McCloy’s untimely passing. McCloy suffered a heart failure at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg on Tuesday night. She was aged 50.
Mariah worked in the public relations and communications industry with a focus on music, entertainment, culture, art, festivals, fashion and film. She was skilled in Publicity in the creative industry with an extensive media and entertainment industry network. Mariah held a Bachelor of Arts (BA) Journalism & Politics from Rhodes University.
Some of her clients include musicians Thandiswa Mazwai, Sjava, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Somi and Nakhane. As a festival publicist Maria worked with Afropunk JHB, Bassline Fest, Fete de la Musique , Basha Uhuru, Human Rights Festival and HughFest. She was also an FNB Art Joburg’s publicist and worked on The Standard Bank Arts Festival, The Standard Bank Young Artist Awards as well as Nando’ s and KFC projects that focused on art and music.
The McCloy family has released a statement where they announced the sad news. In the statement, Maria is remembered for her kindness, warmth, generosity and unwavering love for those around her that touched many lives.
“She had a special way of bringing people together and her presence brough comfort, laughter, and love to all who knew her,” read the statement.
