Dispensary Support Opportunity at Dis-Chem Pharmacies Mall of the South

Dis-Chem Pharmacies at Mall of the South, Johannesburg, is offering a Dispensary Support position on a fixed-term contract. This role is designed for learners interested in becoming qualified pharmacist assistants. The position provides structured on-the-job training while completing the learner basic pharmacist assistant course, equipping candidates with practical skills and a solid understanding of pharmaceutical operations. Once registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a learner basic assistant, candidates may transition to permanent employment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist pharmacists with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines and scheduled substances under supervision.
- Support compounding, manipulation, and preparation of non-sterile medicines according to approved formulas and standard operating procedures.
- Help unpack, merchandise, and organize dispensary stock while maintaining cleanliness and order.
- Accurately interpret prescriptions, ensure correct picking, packing, labelling, and manage common drug interactions under pharmacist supervision.
- Control stock of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines, monitoring expiry dates and reporting low or out-of-stock items.
- Handle patient service calls, script tracking, and scheme authorizations for chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medication.
- Provide accurate health information to customers and patients, promoting wellness.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Senior Certificate with at least 50% in Pure Mathematics, Life Science, or Physical Science and an average of 50% overall.
- Completion of a proficiency test allowing application for SAPC registration as a learner basic assistant.
- Strong English communication skills and proficiency in a second language.
- Competence in computer and numerical skills, time management, and attention to detail.
