With Mama Cynthia Shange, it was quite different. The family decided on a private and intimate funeral service.
The former Miss South Africa and award winning actress passed away on the 20th of April 2026. The news was broken by her daughter, Nonhle Thema, a media personality and actress. Since the announcement of he dearth, tributes have been pouring in for the legendary personality. Among the tributes that touched many is that of Sindi Dlathu, who starred alongside Mam Cynthia in Muvhango. The two played mother and daughter, with Sindi being cast as Thandaza Mukwevho. Sindi highlighted some of Mama Cynthia’s most outstanding qualities such as grace, love and gentleness
Mama Cynthia was laid to rest in KwaZulu-Natal, with the family being supported by relatives, friends, neighbors and other comforters.

The family has thanked everyone who came through for them as they gave Mama Cynthia a dignified funeral. This includes the extended family, friends and neighbors.
