Research Coordinator Intern Opportunity at Grain SA Pretoria

Position Overview
Grain SA invites applications for a Research Coordinator Intern based in Pretoria. This 12-month internship offers the opportunity to support the coordination, design, evaluation, and communication of research projects across the Grain SA portfolio. The successful candidate will join the Research, Innovation, and Agronomy team and work closely with external research partners to ensure initiatives are relevant, impactful, and effectively executed.

Key Responsibilities

Project Coordination & Support

  • Assist with sourcing and securing project funding
  • Facilitate project inception and design with internal teams and researchers from private and public institutions
  • Monitor research progress and ensure alignment with timelines and deliverables
  • Promote collaboration among researchers, institutions, and industry partners
  • Provide ad hoc support to research and other initiatives within Grain SA

Research Evaluation & Analysis

  • Critically evaluate research outputs for scientific quality, impact, and adherence to objectives
  • Conduct literature and evidence reviews on topics relevant to the grain and oilseed industry
  • Ensure internal teams are updated with recent findings, trends, and developments

Stakeholder Engagement & Communication

  • Liaise with external researchers to resolve challenges and provide technical feedback
  • Engage with key stakeholders and beneficiaries to communicate progress and outcomes
  • Prepare clear, accurate, and comprehensive reports for external stakeholders
  • Represent Grain SA at internal and industry meetings
  • Develop popular and technical articles highlighting industry-relevant research outcomes
  • Support outreach and advocacy on agricultural research to government, industry bodies, and producer groups

Minimum Requirements

  • Completed or currently completing an MSc in Plant Pathology, Agronomy, or closely related field
  • Proficiency in MS Office software
  • Strong analytical, critical evaluation, and scientific report-writing skills
  • Valid Code 8 driver’s licence with own transport

Contract Details

  • Duration: 12 months
  • Remuneration: Competitive salary calculated on a cost-to-company basis
  • Employment aligned with Grain SA’s Employment Equity policy
