Pharmacist Assistant PBQ Opportunity at Dis-Chem Cape Gate

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is seeking a Post Basic Qualified (PBQ) Pharmacist Assistant for its Cape Gate store. This permanent position involves providing pharmaceutical care, taking responsibility for patients’ medicine-related needs, and ensuring compliance with all legal and professional standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines and scheduled substances.
  • Support compounding, manipulation, and preparation of non-sterile medicines according to approved formulas and SOPs.
  • Assist with re-packaging, distribution, and stock control of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines.
  • Help with ordering medicines up to Schedule 6 under pharmacist instruction.
  • Accurately read and prepare prescriptions, ensuring correct labelling and supply.
  • Capture script details, verify patient information, and check medication accuracy.
  • Provide instructions to patients on correct medicine use and advise on self-medication.
  • Maintain customer profiles, merge profiles when necessary, and follow up on prescriptions and appointments.
  • Report stock levels, receive dispensary stock, and assist with bi-annual stock takes.
  • Ensure compliance with medical aid procedures and handle claims processing.

Essential Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
  • Basic Pharmacist Assistance qualification.
  • Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
  • Entry-level experience with Unisolv.
  • Computer literate, proficient in MS Office.
  • Strong numerical skills.
  • Proficiency in English and a second language.
  • Willingness to work retail hours.

Advantageous Skills

  • Knowledge of Retail or FMCG operations.
  • Third additional language.
  • Experience with SAP and E-Scripting.
  • Knowledge of drug, family planning, and complementary medicine.
