Tshepo Opens Up About Palesa’s Behaviour That Raised Red Flags on Married at First Sight SA

Married at First Sight South Africa has only been on air for eight weeks, but the drama is already reaching boiling point. Each Sunday at 6:30PM on Mzansi Magic (and streaming on Showmax), viewers tune in to watch complete strangers navigate the ups and downs of married life—and this season has not disappointed.

Among the couples who’ve taken on this daring experiment are Palesa Mphaki and Tshepo Miya, whose relationship has been anything but smooth sailing. Alongside them, viewers are following the journeys of Makoto Phumodi & Nkuleleko Mahlangu, Themba Khosa & Nelisa Ntabeni, and Portia Baloyi & Bongani Luvalo.

From disapproving families to baby mama drama and growing intimacy struggles, the show has delivered raw and uncomfortable moments week after week. And in the latest episodes, Tshepo has been candid about the challenges he’s faced in his marriage to Palesa.

“The Cracks Began on Our Honeymoon”

In an exclusive chat, Tshepo revealed the moment he first noticed troubling behaviour from his wife:

“The cracks in my marriage began during the honeymoon phase when my wife asked me not to communicate directly with women in production, and said I should rather redirect them to her for any information or requirements. I found that strange as we were still getting to know each other and that kind of behaviour did raise some eyebrows.”

For Tshepo, this demand set off alarm bells early on. What should have been a time to build trust and intimacy quickly turned into an uncomfortable dynamic.

Tshepo went on to explain that much of their conflict came from trying to maintain a “perfect” image for the cameras.

“During the day, outside of shooting, there were issues that I would raise, but I would be told by my wife that we need to nip them in the bud and ensure we appear okay as much as possible. My issue is that I cannot pretend—if I’m not okay, then I am not okay,” he admitted.

This tension between what played out off-camera and the polished version presented on-screen only added strain to their marriage.
