Checkers has introduced South Africa’s first-ever Xpress Smart Trolley, a groundbreaking innovation that allows shoppers to skip traditional checkout queues entirely.
The trolley, which is currently being trialled at Checkers Hyper Brackenfell with Home Office staff, enables customers to scan and bag items as they shop. It provides a live running total of purchases and allows payment directly on the trolley, eliminating the need to stand in line at a tillpoint.
“This technology is all about delivering frictionless, effortless shopping. It saves customers valuable time and money while making everyday shopping simpler,” Checkers said in a statement.
Ten smart trolleys will soon be rolled out for customer use at Checkers Hyper Brackenfell and Checkers Constantia.
The retailer praised its development teams for bringing the project to life, describing the trolley as another milestone in its drive to push innovation within South Africa’s retail sector.
