A Touching Tribute to Remember Mama Connie Chiume On Her First Death Anniversary. They say time flies when you are having fun. Sometimes this can happen when we are in grieve, time just seems to pass by without us taking notice. This is because it takes time to process what happened, and before we know it, months and years have gone by.
It felt like just yesterday, when we lost Mama Connie Chiume. The veteran actress passed on the 6th of August 2024, at the Garden City Hospital. Mama Connie was 76 at the time, and still at the prime of her career. It was indeed a sad day in South Africa, more so since many were not aware that she was not well.
After her passing, Mama Connie’s family made it their point to make her memory alive. Together with the Connie Chiume Foundation, they continue with her work with the aim to keep her legacy alive. They have been honoring their mother by working tirelessly to make sure that they continue to serve communities like she did and inspire nations. They do so with acting workshops around the country, where raw talent is unearthed.
To mark the first anniversary of her death, Mama Connie took to her Instagram page with a powerful message. They acknowledged her 47 years in the industry as well as 28 years or nurturing young talent. To continue her legacy, the family aims at making sure that the Connie Chiume Student Film Festival fulfills its mandate. They want to see young film makers prosper as Mama Connie would have wanted.
