Mia Le Roux Shares A Moving Story of How She and Her Fiance Met

Mia Le Roux Shares A Moving Story of How She and Her Fiance Met. A day ago, Mia Le Roux took to social media to share her engagement news. She revealed that she and her partner Luke Tenoever have been engaged for a while. The couple decided to enjoy the moment first, before sharing the news.

Since becoming open about her love life, Mia has now shared an update about how she and Luke met. The two were out with a group of people, when Luke showed Mia compassion at her most vulnerable moment. The reigning Miss SA was diagnosed with profound hearing loss, at the age of one. As result she was fitted with a cochlear implant to aid her hearing.

So here’s the story of how we met, a memory that remains a quiet testament to the kind of person Luke is: gentle, kind, and sometimes too precious for this world.

We met on an apple farm, nestled amongst sun-drenched orchards. One of my close friends had opened her home there for our group to celebrate New Year’s together. Luke and a friend of his were invited too.

When I arrived, I saw Luke, a little bit shy initially. But soon we found ourselves in deep conversation, the kind where everything just makes sense. He understood me, and I understood him. It was easy and effortless.

As midnight approached, we all made our way to the dam. The plan was to jump in right as the clock struck twelve — to wash away the old year and make space for the new.

Standing by the water, I made a decision to keep my hearing aid in. It wasn’t supposed to get wet, but I calculated that I could manage the jump without going fully under. But when we leapt, I realized I’d miscalculated— my head went under, and my hearing aid stopped working.

Suddenly, I felt incredibly vulnerable. Silently, I climbed out of the dam and began walking back to the house, hoping to fix it. Luke noticed right away. He came over and gently asked what was wrong. I explained, and without hesitation, he offered to walk me back.

We had to go through a small forest to reach the house. It was dark. I couldn’t hear anything. I felt exposed, embarrassed, and kept apologizing, rambling nervously — assuming this was unfamiliar and uncomfortable for him.
Then he stopped walking, took a step back, looked at me, and signed: ‘You are beautiful’.

And in that quiet moment, something inside me shifted. I understood that kindness and acceptance are real. That they can find you even in the most unexpected moments.

Today, I know I never needed to feel ashamed — my hearing loss is simply a part of who I am. And while not everyone may understand your experience fully, they can choose to meet you with compassion. That kind of kindness? It stays with you. 🤍
