Botswana’s President Steps Out in R34,000 Designer Sunglasses

Botswana’s President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko turned heads today as he arrived in Lesotho for a three-day working visit — not only for his diplomatic agenda but also for his sharp style, highlighted by a pair of VARKATOPE Limited Edition sunglasses retailing at R34,000.

The ultra-premium frames, manufactured by renowned luxury eyewear brand DITA, feature an innovative, tension-held bifocal design with exposed titanium machinery, custom hinges, and sculpted temples. Only 290 black and gold piecesexist worldwide, making them a rare statement in political fashion. President Boko’s pair, part of the SKU DTS707-A-01 range, has quickly become the centre of attention online.

Beyond the headlines, President Boko was received by His Majesty King Letsie III at the Royal Palace, where they held high-level talks aimed at strengthening bilateral ties between Botswana and Lesotho. Discussions centred on cooperation in education, defence, security, and judicial matters.

Later, President Boko paid a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane at the State House. There, the leaders witnessed the signing of the Binational Commission of Cooperation Agreement, inked by Botswana’s Minister of International Relations Dr Phenyo Butale and Lesotho’s Foreign Affairs Minister Mr Letjone Mpotjoane. The agreement will enhance economic integration and collaboration in sectors including trade, water, tourism, agriculture, and education.

President Boko also visited the Tikoe Industrial Estate, home to Lesotho’s thriving textile sector, and discussed strategies to boost the region’s competitiveness in the global apparel market.

On the second day of his visit, President Boko is scheduled to tour the Malealea Dam site, where he will be briefed on the Lesotho–Botswana Water Transfer Project.
