Social Media Weighs In On Floyd Shivambu’s Recent Press Conference Invitation

Social Media Weighs In On Floyd Shivambu’s Recent Press Conference Invitation. The political landscape of South Africa has been quite interesting of late. There is the whole Government of Unity, which saw the likes of Gayton McKenzie become part of the cabinet.
The Economic Freedom Fighters, EFF, which was once strong, did not do as good as expected in the general elections, and the party also suffered internal drama. It came as a shock when one of the party’s founding members Floyd Shivambu resigned. He had been the Deputy President of EFF since 2013, and was responsible for Policy, Research, and International Relations. He is one of the founding members of the party. Since their days in the African National Congress Youth League, Shivambu and Julius Malema have appeared as close political allies. Following both their suspension from the African National Congress, they co-founded the EFF).
Shivambu then joined Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto Wesizwe party, where he assumed the role of Secretary General. All ha been going well for him at the party, until of recent. Shivambu was demoted from his position, and redeployed to parliament. Although he remained positive on social media, many could tell that a lot was going on. With Zuma’s statement that they won’t beg those who go astray, it became evident that there is trouble in paradise.
Taking to social media, Shivambu has invited members of the press, to talk about political developments in the country. He also quoted Amilcar Cabral, who advocates for speaking the truth to the masses. Many feel that, this is Shivambu’s way to resign from the MK.
“Tomorrow (Thursday, 19 June 2025) we have a Press Conference to speak about political developments in South Africa. Those who have worked with us know that the guiding dictum and principle is guided by Amilcar Cabral who says, “Hide nothing from the masses of our people. Tell no lies. Expose lies whenever they are told. Mask no difficulties, mistakes, failures. Claim no easy victories . .”. It’s our DNA to speak the truth because truth is Revolutionary,” Shivambu said.
