For decades, Mam’ Nandi has entertained us through the shows she was cast in. Many remember her for playing Nandi Sibiya on Zone 14. She also portrayed the character of Lily on SABC 1’s hit teen-drama Yizo Yizo, and the leading character in the SABC 1 sitcom Izoso Connexion. Mam Nandi has also been on Jacob’s Cross, Soul Buddyz, Hillside, Erfsondes, 4Play: Sex Tips for Girls, The No.1 Ladies’ Detective Agency, Sticks and Stones, Isithunzi, Isibaya, The Road Ashes to Ashes, Isithembiso Dolly and House of Zwide.
She has also acted in feature films, including Reasonable Man (1999), Saturday Night at the Palace (1987) and Yesterday (2004).
Despite her long and impactful career in the South African entertainment, she is going through challenges. According to reports, the 74-year-old veteran actress, is now using a wheelchair due to knee problems. She is also experiencing financial difficulties, after exhausting her savings. Mam’ Nandi was helped her son financially, and this has contributed to her problems. However, she is not seeking for handouts, but will appreciate work, as she is still sharp mentally.
Upon hearing and reading about her situation, many South Africans are feeling for her. Some have called on the Ministry of Arts, Sports and Culture, Gayton McKenzie to assist.
