Sad Note: Veteran Actor Don Mlangeni Nawa Passes Away. The South African entertainment has been dealt yet another blow. The nation has just been informed of the passing away of veteran actor Don Mlangeni Nawa. He died today, Wednesday, 16th April 2025, aged 65 years.
His family has released a statement to make the official announcement. They described him as the heart of the family, a loving father, brother and a friend. The family also acknowledges what Bab’ Don Mlangeni was to the world. They have expressed gratitude over the outpouring messages of condolences from colleagues, fans and the public at large. Having been on television for at least three decades, the veteran actor remains one of the most recognizable faces in the industry. Many know Bab’ Don for portraying Zebedee Matabane on the former SABC 3 soapie Isidingo. He portrayed the role for 16 years.
He however started acting career in theatre. After that Bab’ Don moved to Zulu drama Hlala Kwabafileyo in 1993. He also acted in the Zulu film Ubambo Lwami as David, then in 1995, he acted in the Cycle Simenon.
In 2018, Bab’ Don made a lead role ‘Moseki’, a royal family member and younger brother of the queen, in the popular Mzansi Magic telenovela The Throne. In the same year, he received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2018 Royalty Soapie Awards for his contribution to the television industry.
He also played the popular role ‘Laqhasha’ in five seasons in the television serial ”Sgudi ‘Snaysi. In 2019, he made his film debut in the film Losing Lerato where he played the role ‘SWAT Commander’. In 2020, he joined the cast of serial Legacy. Later in the year, he confirmed that the serial Uzalo will be his last production as an actor.Other shows he has been a part of include Stokvel, Rockville, The River, Abomama, The Republic, Legacy, The Estate, Good Men, Makoti, Shaka iLembe, and Soon Comes Night.
