Thandiswa Mazwai On the Struggles Firstborns Face

Thandiswa Mazwai On the Struggles Firstborns Face. Often at times they are referred to as deputy parents. This is because firstborns out there help their parents with raising their younger siblings. They have more responsibilities in the house, and often their needs are neglected simply because they are older.

One individual who knows very well, the load that firstborns carry is Thandiswa Mazwai. The multi-award winning singer and songwriter is a firstborn herself. Matters worse for her, she lost her mother while she was still young and had to learn from an early age to take huge responsibilities. As the older sibling, Thandiswa had a bigger role of helping to raise her younger siblings.

Thandiswa’s younger sister, Ntsiki Mazwai often speaks highly of her. Many people always assume there is bad blood between the two, but the reality of the matter is that they love each other. A few years back, Ntsiki took to Twitter to appreciate the exceptional job Thandiswa did as well as the hardships that came with it.

“All I can tell you is that Thandiswa’s journey has been much more powerful than you know….. She had to carry her mother’s children,” Ntsiki said.

Today, Thandiswa took it upon herself to share what firstborn siblings go through. Speaking in general, she stated that firstborns make sacrifices, that a lot of times, remain unseen. She said they give up a lot, for the sake of younger siblings.

Nobody will ever know the sacrifices of a first born. They often give up so much for those who come after them,” Thandiswa said.
