When their sister asked why the family is not mourning Banele, the uncle clarified that he isn’t truly dead because his spirit lives on through Sanele. He will only be ‘dead’, when his twin brother Sanele dies. This explains the word, iThonga, which refers to someone who is believed to be dead but continues to exist in the world of the ancestors.
