Here Is How Simphiwe Dana Is Celebrating 20 Years of Her Debut Album. She is one of the best vocalists and songwriters of our time. Since bursting into the scene two decades ago, Simphiwe Dana has been consistent with releasing meaningful music.
The multi-award winning musician signed a record deal with Gallo Records, which saw her release her debut album Zandisile in 2004. The album sold very well and gained several awards, including some South African Music Award (SAMA) in 2005. On its worldwide release the album gained success in the Billboard charts and she won an AVO Session Basel Award.
It has been 2 decades since she released the album, and Simphiwe is celebrating in a major way. She will host shows in June, to celebrate her 20 years milestone.
“Itβs been 20 years since my debut album Zandisile and we have to celebrate this milestone together.
I will be exploring the many amazing songs from my repertoire in my upcoming celebration of 20 Years in song at the Baxter Theatre Concert Hall on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 June 2025.
This show will be a reflection of the many sound textures of my music career.

After her debut album, Simphiwe continued doing amazing things in the industry. In 2007, she was named the “Best Female Artist”, with the song “The One Love Movement on Bantu Biko Street”, at the SAMAs.
Her third studio album Kulture Noir was released in 2019. It bagged two awards, Best Contemporary Jazz and Best Female at the 10th Metro FM Music Awards. In early 2014, she signed a record deal with Sony Music. The following year, her fourth studio album Firebrand was released. On April 24, 2020, Simphiwe dropped her fifth studio album Bamako.
