The Department of Correctional Services Celebrates Its 2024 Matric Best Performers. Everyone deserves a second chance in this life, and prisoners are no exception. A number of them sat for the 2024 Matric exams, and did exceptionally well.

The Matric results were released a week ago, and they are quite satisfactory. The NSC Class of 2024 has made history by achieving an 87.3% pass rate. This is the highest pass rate in the history of our country. On the other hand, the IEB matric class of 2024 has achieved an impressive 98.47% pass rate. This marks the highest pass rate in the past five years. Inmates, who sat for their examination in 2024, also did very well.

A few days ago, the Department of Correctional Services had an announcements of their Matric results as well as an award ceremony for those who aced their exams. The class of 2024, secured a 96.2% pass rate. This is a first time since the country gained its democracy. 

Over the years, DCS has achieve great Matric results with the following pass rates recorded in the last couple of years, 2016 – 72.1%, 2017 – 76.7%, 2018 – 77.3%, 2019 – 82.6%, 2020 –86.3% and 2021-76.4%. In 2022, their full-time school achieved 95,9% pass rate while part-time registered a 63,3%. The final tally of results was 87,5%, an improvement from the 77% they obtained from the 2021 academic year. This is really commendable considering the pandemic and load shedding challenges.
