Thandiswa Mazwai Mourns Fellow Band Member Thabang Tabane

Thandiswa Mazwai Mourns Fellow Band Member Thabang Tabane. South Africa once again loses a young talent to death. On Wednesday morning, talented percussionist Thabang Tabane lost his life after a short illness. Thabang was 45 years old.

He was the son of the late Legendary Philip Tabane a South African musician, vocalist, jazz guitarist and band leader from Mamelodi. Tabane led the famous group, Malombo Jazzmen. His music was heavily influenced by Sepedi chants and rhythms which are reputed to have spiritual healing powers. His son Thabang was also a musician who took from his father’s genetic talent of producing rhythmic African music and drum beats.

Thabang also got to work with Thandiswa Mazwai as a percussionist in their band. His untimely death has hurt the multi-award winning musician to the core. Thandiswa shared the news of his passing on social media, revealing how much it has hurt her. She also stated that Thabang was also a friend and a source of inspiration in their band. He is survived by his children.

Dear friends of our band

I am devastated to share the heartbreaking news that our beloved percussionist Thabang Tabane has passed away earlier today. This is an unimaginable loss, and we are all struggling to process it.

Thabang was not only an incredible musician, but also a dear friend, a source of inspiration, and a vital part of our music as a band. His presence, energy, and spirit will be deeply missed, both on and off the stage.
