Do Not Get Married In Community of Property,” Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng. She is known for her fearless tweets, which most of the time spark conversations online. Despite the feedback, Professor Mamokgethi Phakeng never folds.

This time around the former Cape Town University Vice Chancellor touched on the controversial topic of marriage. Phakeng took to X (Twitter) advising people out to not get married in community of property. She emphasized that even if you and your significant other love each other dearly, do not do that. A lot of people in the comments section backed the Professor, while some had different takes on the matter.

Sizwe Dhlomo, who is also quite vocal in the X streets, seems to concur with Phakeng. The veteran media personality urged Phakeng to leave those who opt for that kind of arrangement.

No matter how much you love each other, DO NOT get married in community of property!🙏,” Phakeng advised.

Here in South Africa, marriage in community of property is the most popular form of all the matrimonial regimes. In this form of marriage, the spouses’ estates are joined together and each has the right of disposal over the assets. The spouses are equal concurrent managers of the joint estate. Each has an undivided or indivisible half share of the joint or communal estate. All assets belonging to the spouses prior to getting married and all assets that they may accumulate during their marriage will fall into the joint or communal estate
