SA Celebs We Sadly Lost In 2024. This year has been tough on the entertainment industry, as we have lost a couple of talent. The acting, music, broadcasting and political spaces were largely affected.
Mpho Sebeng
Mpho Sebeng passed away after a tragic accident on Sunday, May 5. The Soweto-born actor, was celebrated for his roles in several popular South African television series and films, bringing authenticity and depth to each character he portrayed.
Adrian Alper
Adrian made a name for himself as an actor, director, writer, comedian, voice artist, presenter and M.C. He best known for his leading role as Calvin in the the SABC3 sitcom Streaks, in 1995. He passed away in May this year.
Connie Chiume
Mam’ Chiume passed away at the Garden City Hospital on 6th August 2024. She was known for her roles in films like 2018’s Black Panther, Black is King and Blessers. The international award winning actresses has also been on many shows on TV. Among those are SABC1’s Zone 14 to e.tv’s Rhythm City and Gomora on Mzansi Magic (DStv 161).
Zanele Mbokazi
A couple of days after Mama Connie’s passing, it was announced that Zanele Mbokazi has also passed. The media personality and Crown Gospel Music Awards’ founder passed on in the early morning of Monday 12th August 2024, at Parklands Hospital. She had lung cancer, which she sadly succumbed to.
Thabiso Sikwane
Thabiso Sikwane passed away in August, just hours before her 50th birthday celebration. The seasoned broadcaster’s voice was featured on radio stations such as Voice of Soweto, SAFM, PowerFM and Kaya FM. She was also a great singer, and has hits under her name.
Jessica Mbangeni
Poet, Dr. Bishop Jessica Mbangeni, passed away on August after a brief illness. Most notably, the 47-year-old performed at the late former president Nelson Mandela’s 46664 concerts in Cape Town and former president Thabo Mbeki’s inauguration, among many others.
Pravin Gordhan
The former Public Enterprise Minister, passed away on 13 September 2024 after being hospitalized on Tuesday, following a short battle with cancer. He was aged 75.
Darlington Michaels
Legendary South African actor, Darlington Michaels died on Friday, 13 September after a short illness. Best-known for his role as “Papa G”, Georgie Zamedela on the popular soapie Isidingo, Michaels was a much-loved actor.
