How SA Celebs Stepped Out for Mufasa: The Lion King Premier In Los Angeles. Mufasa: The Lion King is finally here! It was an international celebrity affair, when global stars gathered around for the premier of the hit series in Los Angeles, USA.
South Africa was also in the building as our A-list celebrities, made their mark in Hollywood. Present was of course, Lebo M, a renowned producer and composer. He is well known for his vocal work on the soundtrack to The Lion King. Thuo Mbedu, who joined the cast, was also present. Dr John Kani and Kagiso Lediga, both playing Rafiki at different stages were also in attendance. Atandwa Kani, accompanied his father Dr Kani to the premier.
Media personality and actress Minnie Dlamini was also part of the South African entourage. Just a week ago, she had the huge honor of MCing the announcement of global superstar and Lebo M’s first ever live concert on home soil, billed for the 11-13 April 2025 at Arts Cape Theatre in Cape Town.
The prequel, about the rise of one of the greatest kings of the Pride Lands, goes back to the African savanna where Rafiki tells Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, the story of her grandfather. This marks the character’s first on-screen appearance in an animated feature film since The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride (1998), the direct-to-video sequel to the original animated film. Timon and Pumbaa will add color commentary.
Mufasa: The Lion King will be released in theaters on December 20, 2024, by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
