Lebo M Reminisces On the Good Times He Has Had With the Late Mandoza. One thing about death, it robs us of the physical connection we have with our loved ones. We are only left with memories of what once was.
One of the deaths that South Africans still battle to come to terms with is that of Mandoza. The celebrated Kwaito star died of brain cancer in 2016 at the age of 38. He was known for his numerous hit singles, including “Nkalakatha”, “Uzoyithola Kanjani, Tornado”, “Sgelekeqe”, “Ngalabesi”, “Godoba”, “Tsotsi Yase Zola” and “Indoda”, which topped the charts in South Africa and all over the African continent. His second album Nkalakatha, released in 2000, became the biggest selling album of his career, selling 350,000 units.
To date, Mandoza is still remembered for his contribution to the music industry. His widow Mpho Tshabalala and their sons, are doing all they can to keep his musical legacy alive. They do so through concerts, and working on new music projects. Another legend, Lebo M, recently posted about the great times he has had with the late stare. The composer and producer shared a picture of himself hanging with Mandoza and gave it a beautiful caption. He states that there is unreleased work they did together, and will share it in the not so distant future.
“Reflecting and reminiscent with my homie Mandoza on my mind… our time many moons ago in studio together. So much beautiful UNRELEASED work in our vault one day soon enough we will share. Bless and RIP my homie #NKALAKATHA #Mandoza #30YearsAKING #LebomLIVE2025SA #LeboMLIVESOUTHAFRICA2025🇿🇦,” Lebo M said.
