“We Told the Story the Best and Most Honest Way Possible and You Have Seen Our Hearts,” Vele Manenje. Skeem Saam has always been hailed for being relatable. Most of its storylines are what a typical South African goes through every now and then.
Their court case, where Ntswaki is accusing Tobias of rape, has sparked a conversation on Twitter. The two were starting a relationship, and one night their intimate moment led to sexual intercourse. Before the act began, Ntswaki had already checked out, and it seems like Toby did not pay attention to that. A case of rape was opened against him, and he got sentenced to 15 years imprisonment. This shattered his world, the most affected person being his mom, Evelyn Maswahla.
The three characters are played by award winning actors, Lethabo Mekoa, Sicelo Buthelezi and Vele Manenje. They have shown viewers at home real unfiltered emotions. Speaking about their task, Vele admits that from the get go, she and Sicelo knew it was a massive one. They had to handle the whole thing with the utmost seriousness and sensitivity.
“When we @seekay_sa and myself were called in for briefings @skeemsaam13 ,we knew the massive task we were faced with, to handle this “RAPE/CONSENT” issue with the utmost seriousness and sensitivity as possible. While we are careful how we approach it in order to tell this story on behalf of all the parents that have been in this situation and all the men that have suffered to the misfortune of not understanding CONSENT,” she said.
Vele went on to thank everyone for the reception they have been given. She also acknowledged that viewers will receive them differently, but also content that they did their best. Vele also thanked the team at Skeem Saam, particularly Sicelo and Lethabo.
“I just want to take this moment to show gratitude to how our efforts have been received. It has not been an easy journey at all. Because everyone has their own opinion on such issues or even on how the issue is addressed, but the gist of it all is that…WE TOLD THE STORY THE BEST AND MOST HONEST WAY POSSIBLE AND U HAVE SEEN OUR HEARTS.
