Tyla Makes History With Her VMA Win
Tyla Makes History With Her VMA Win. She has once again made herself, her family, fans, the country and the continent proud with a major win. Tyla has just won the Best Afrobeats award for “Water”, at the 2024 VMA awards.
The award winning musician has made history by becoming the First Female African Artist and the First South African Artist to win a VMA Award. Tyla has had a major year since the viral release of her hit “Water”. The hit song has seen her bag a Grammy, billboard, BET and VMA award in her debut year.
In her acceptance speech, she said, “The global impact that ‘Water’ has had on the world just proves that African music can be pop music too. I know there’s a tendency to group all African artists under Afrobeats. It’s a thing, and even though Afrobeats has run things and has opened so many doors for us, African music is so diverse. It’s more than just Afrobeats.”
2nd global award for Tyla this week. Earlier she won the Global Impact Award at the Billboards, and now a VMA. Makes a great speech saying African music is more than just Afrobeats. πΏπ¦ is doing so much winning. It feels good to be South African. pic.twitter.com/DutgmVkK1b
