Social Media Reacts to the News of Mapaputsi’s Passing. Over the past couple of days, South Africa has been losing iconic stars. One can think of the likes of Connie Chiume, Zanele Mbokazi, Thabiso Sikwane, Jessica Mbangeni among others. All these women have contributed immensely to the local entertainment industry.

Now there are more devastating news. Kwaito legend Sandile Ngwenya, popularly known as Mapaputsi has reportedly passed away. According to reports, he passed away on Thursday evening, following an illness. Apparently Mapaputsi was showing signs of recovery after months of suffering with his health.

Mapaputsi will go down history as one of the most iconic Kwaito artists in SA. He started his music career in 1998, working with artists like TKZee, Chiskop, and Sbu. YFM DJ Khabzela was the one who sparked his interest in recording in 2001.

After he met with the D-Rex and Khabzela, they recorded the project and produced Izinja. The album put him up there with the greats, and he received accolades because of it. In 2003 he won awards for Best Kwaito Artist and Best Kwaito Song at the Metro FM Awards in 2002.
