Ratile Mabitsela Opens Up About Battling Depression and Suicide Attempt. The entire September is observes as Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, with the 10th specifically marked as World Suicide Prevention Day. On the day Ratile Mabitsela, took to social media to open up about her own struggles. She spoke about battling depression, and surviving a suicide attempt. She also had to deal with a partner who also went through the same experience, and ultimately losing him to suicide.

Many know Ratile as this glam reality show star from The Mommy Club. The truth of the matter is that, just as everyone else, she also goes through tough times. She has suffered depression, and at some point attempted to take her own life. In early 2025, her husband Elias Lehlogonolo Mabitsela, who also battled the same monster, took his own life.

On World Suicide Prevention Day, Ratile stated that you can’t always tell that someone is battling depression. She thus urged people to check on those they love. She also advocates for self care, and seeking professional help when needed. Ratile concluded her message by putting survivors in her thoughts, as well as holding space for those who lost their lives.

World Suicide Prevention Day ❤️‍🩹

I can’t speak about mental health without reflecting on my own life. And perhaps sharing parts of my healing journey might encourage someone else to keep going.

I have known depression from both sides.

From battling depression myself, to loving a partner who battled it too.
From surviving my own suicide attempt, to later losing my partner to suicide.

I share this not for pity, but for awareness.

Depression is not always something you can see. Yet the pain can become life-threatening when someone is suffering without the support and treatment they need.

Check in on the people you love. Be a safe space. Pay attention to your own thoughts and triggers. Seek professional help when you need it. Therapy, medication, prayer, meditation and simply allowing someone else in can all form part of healing.

Today I hold space for those who attempted suicide and survived. ❤️‍🩹

I hold space for the lives we have lost, and for the families who continue living with that loss.

And to anyone battling right now, especially if you are feeling suicidal, the last slide is for you. ❤️‍🩹

Love & Light ✨
