Established in 2014, the Fellowship is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year. It has brought nearly 6,500 young leaders from every country in Sub-Saharan to the United States for academic and leadership training.
The talented actress and award winning poet was placed under the Civic Engagement Track at Michigan State University. Botlhale has achieved the following Diplomas; a Certificate of completion from The Government of the United States of America signed by Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition for one’s community service contribution in the City of Lansing by Mayor Andy Schor, a Certificate of completion from Michigan State University and a Certificate of honor recognizing her creativity given by her fellows.
“Officially part of the Mandela Washington Fellowship Class of 2024🎓
Honored to have been one of the leaders selected from a pool of over 50 000 applicants across 49 countries, to also have been the youngest 2024 fellow and represent my country South Africa on a global platform,” Botlhale gushed.
Botlhale first traveled to the US, aged thirteen. She performed her poems at the Legacy of Hope Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital campaign inauguration in New York. Her request and performance was linked with International Mandela Day. Botlhale joined personalities like Maya Angelou, Whoopi Goldberg, Sir Anthony Hopkins and Charlize Theron as an honorary committee member. Her message led her to the recording of Africa my Pride. It was turned into music by Malambule from Native Rhythms Productions.
