Tatjana Smith Bags South Africa’s First Gold Medal at the Olympics. Monday evening South Africa added on to their medals in Paris, with a first Gold. This is all thanks to Tatjana Smith who won the Women’s 100m Breaststroke.
The 27-year-old won a second career Olympic Games gold medal with victory in the women’s 100 metre breaststroke. The swim sensation had a storming finish to touch in 1:05.28. Smith was point-two-six of a second quicker than the time of China’s Tang Qianting who finished second with a time of 1:05.54. Ireland’s Mona McSharry, took third position with a time of 1:05.59.
Smith will defend her 200 metre breaststroke gold medal she won in Tokyo, later this week.
Congratulations are also in order to mountain biker Alan Hatherly for collecting bronze in the men’s cross-country race, with the slightest of margins separating the podium party. His bronze was South Africa’s first ever medal in mountain biking. Team South Africa has now won a total of three medals at the Games.
