Social Media Reacts to Gayton McKenzie Stopping All Trips for Super Fans. If there is one minister who hit it running since his appointment, it has to be Gayton McKenzie. He is the new Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, and is happy about his assignment.
The Patriotic Alliance leader, author and businessman is already implementing changes in the ministry. A few days back, McKenzie shared that his first salary will be shared by 3 artist, struggling financially. His gesture was received by applauds from artists and the general public.
The Minister has also given an instruction that a list be published of all artist, creatives and sports people who have been receiving money from the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture. The list will include the amount of money they received and the reasons. McKenzie added that the time where only a select connected few benefit is over.
He has also stopped all trips for super fans. These fans used to accompany different sports code nationally and internationally at their games. McKenzie wants the money to be used for struggling artists instead.
“I have stopped all trips for super fans, we have athletes & artist who are struggling to raise money to attend sporting events and exhibitions, how do we justify paying for fans? We shall no longer be paying for these trips and will use that money where it’s needed the most,” he said.
As expected, the Minister’s bold move was received by different views. Many are happy that the super fans no longer have to use tax payers’ money for their own leisure. Others however feel that super fans are important for the performance of national teams, more so outside the country.
