Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa Arrested

Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa Arrested. Politics have taken the centre stage of everything in the country. First it was the elections that took place a week ago. Having won only 40% of the vote, the ANC needs to find a coalition partner to secure a majority in parliament, and this is at the top of the news. There are also reports of rigging, and some political parties have cried foul on how the elections were run.

As if all of this is not enough, Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Zizi Kodwa has just been arrested. This follows recommendations from Chief Justice Raymond Zondo in 2021 that Kodwa be removed from Cabinet and possibly charged for alleged State Capture corruption. He has just appeared in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court in connection with allegations that he received over R1.7 million in bribes.

The charges against Kodwa form part of a probe into contracts worth more than R460 million that the City of Johannesburg awarded to EOH Holdings in 2016. The company was hired to upgrade and maintain the metro’s software systems. It’s alleged that the minister influenced the awarding of contracts to EOH in return for favours. During the state capture commission, it was revealed that his luxurious lifestyle was funded by former EOH boss, Jehan Mackay.

As expected, social media is having a field day over the news. Many are making fun of Kodwa’s arrest, and happy also that corruption is being dealt with. Check some of the tweets below.
