Mpho Sebeng Pulled Out From the Simon Mabhunu Sabela Nominees List

Mpho Sebeng Pulled Out From the Simon Mabhunu Sabela Nominees List. KZN Tourism and Film recently announced the nominees for the 2024 Simon Mabhunu Sabela KZN Film and Television Awards. The awards recognize outstanding achievement and excellence within the South African film and television industry, focusing on KwaZulu-Natal. The nominees include actors, producers, directors, and various film and television technicians.

Among those who bagged themselves a nomination is the late Mpho Sebeng. The multi-award winning actor got a nod, under the Best Film Actor category. This is for his iconic role in Ingoma. The storyline follows a schoolteacher who tells his students the story of his life before he found success, navigating betrayal, financial hardship and selling drugs.

For the award Mpho was going to be battling it out with three veteran actors. One is Kwenzo Ngcobo for his role on Freedom Street. The is also Masoja Msiza for his role on Dear Future Wife and Siyabonga Shibe for his role on Blind Eye.

Mpho’s nomination however, became a topic of discussion, as he doesn’t not hail from the KwaZulu Natal Provence. Mpho is from Soweto, Gauteng. After complaints for the public, the Simon Mabhunu Sabela KZN Film & Television Awards has pulled him from the nominees list. The organization has released a statement, in which they cite an oversight as the reason.

They have also assured everyone that the removal of the actor has no material difference to the list of the nominees in the category. Instead of nominees being four, only three actors will now battle it out for the award.
