Here Is What The R70 Million PowerBall Winner Plans To Do With His Winnings

The lucky winner of the R70 million PowerBall jackpot from the draw on May 31 has finally come forward to claim his prize. The winning ticket, a Quick Pick, was purchased at Plus Benoni Maxican in Benoni for a mere R15. The winner remained unaware of his enormous fortune for several days after the draw.

In a statement, the winner shared his disbelief, stating, “I took the results slip at the store a few days after the draw, which I kept with all my other slips. Two days later, I checked the ticket and was shocked to realize that I had been sitting on a ticket worth R70 million! Even then, it still felt like a dream. It was only after ITHUBA confirmed that I held the winning ticket that I believed it.”

Expressing gratitude and a sense of closure, the winner revealed plans to honor his late parents: “My parents passed away a few years ago. It caused me a lot of pain that I could not afford to install tombstones for them. Now, as I am able to fulfill this wish, I feel a sense of closure and hope that it will invite more blessings into my life,” he said emotionally.

Looking ahead, the winner expressed a desire to manage his newfound wealth with care, planning to make thoughtful financial decisions with guidance from ITHUBA’s expert financial advisors.

The management of Plus Benoni Maxican also joined in the celebration. The store manager shared, “We are excited to have sold the winning ticket for the R70 million PowerBall jackpot. This is a milestone for our store, and we hope to see more winners from our community.”

In the same draw, another player won the PowerBall PLUS jackpot, securing a significant R3,095,642.20. This winner plans to use the funds to purchase a home for her family.

ITHUBA CEO, Charmaine Mabuza, extended congratulations to both winners: “I wish to congratulate both winners. I have no doubt that their new windfall will transform their lives significantly,” said Mabuza.

ITHUBA is committed to responsible gaming and supports winners by providing trauma counseling and financial advice for prizes exceeding R50,000. They ensure swift and tax-free payouts within 72 hours of a valid claim. Players must be 18 years or older to participate.
