1. Vuyo Biyela is a 28-year-old Umlazi-born actor

2. He grew up as an only child and had always been close to his mother.

3. Vuyo’s love for acting stems from childhood. He grew up watching a lot of movies on the VCR with his late cousin, who was like a brother to him. They used to love The Karate Kid and will always act out the moves as if they were real actors.

4. His dream was to be a football player. When Vuyo was at University of Zululand, he was playing for the first team and and was a student leader. As he was part of Fees Must Fall campaign, Vuyo got expelled from the faculty. That sadly was the end of his football dream.

5. After a failed soccer career the award winning actor registered for a drama course at Durban University of Technology (DUT). Two years after graduating from DUT, he got the life changing call from the producers of The River, where he played Mlilo.

6. Before The River though, Vuyo had a few shows he acted on. He had a supporting role as Detective Mbele on eTV’s Durban Gen.

7. He also featured in the 2021 movie Salamina. They shot the movie in 2020 and the following year Vuyo won the Best Newcomer in Film at the Simon Mabhunu Sabela Film and Television Awards.
