1. Peter “Mashata” Leshie Mabuse was born in Hammanskraal, Gauteng, and grew up in Mabopane.
2. He got the Mashata nickname because he was very loud at school and in the streets. At home though, he was very quiet and struggled to express himself because he was fearful of his father.
3. Mashata made a name for himself in the entertainment industry as a comedian, DJ, radio personality, and MC.
4. In 2012, he co-founded an entertainment company called Mashata-Tainment. The company runs various comedy clubs in Tshwane, including hosting and managing comedy events throughout the year. It also supplies MCs, live bands and comedians for entertainment at corporate, private and government events.
5. Mashata was also an employee of TUT where he served as a Residence Advisor for both Pretoria and Ga-Rankuwa Campuses.
6. The talented DJ was also a huge football fanatic. He worked as a Mamelodi Sundowns stadium announcer for the club’s home matches. Previously, he was employed by Orlando Pirates in the same role.
7. Sadly Mashata ‘s life was cut short, as he was shot and killed in Soshanguve, north-west of Pretoria, in the early hours of Sunday, 21 April.
8. It’s understood that Mashata was traveling with another occupant when unknown gunmen opened fire on their vehicle. The occupant is in hospital following the shooting.
9. Mashata was a very close friend to another slain musician DJ Sumbody. He was the programme director at Sumbody’s funeral, who was gunned down in Woodmead, Johannesburg, on 20 November 2022.
