The Football Fraternity Mourns Former Player and Analyst Siphiwe Mkhonza. It is with great sadness to share the news of Siphiwe Mkhonza’s passing. The 44-year-old has been hospitalized and later discharged but succumbed to illness. He passed on in the early hours of this morning at home.

Mkhonza, affectionately known as “Dr Mnandi”, has been battling kidney infections for a long time. According to a statement from his family, he was admitted to Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital a month ago and was discharged after showing signs of recovery.

Mkhonza has been taken care of by his girlfriend and the mother of his three children, Ms Nondumiso Masengemi, at their home in Roodepoort. The family wishes to thank his former employer and his colleagues at SABC, fellow football legends from the stable he belonged to, and friends for their support during his illness. Mkhonza is survived by his children, his father, Joseph ‘Skheshe Kheshe’ Mkhonza, his mom, Phindile Mkhonza, and his brother. The family will communicate further details regarding funeral arrangements,” part of the statement reads.

The former defender played for teams like Kaizer Chiefs, Golden Arrows and Golden Arrows. Mkhonza also played for Ria Stars, SuperSport United, AmaZulu FC, and Maritzburg United.

Upon hearing the devastating news, condolence messages poured in on social media. The likes of Thomas Mlambo, Caro Tshabalala, and Christoph Bongo paid tribute to their late colleague. The teams that he once played for, Kaizer Chiefs and Golden Arrows, also penned heartfelt condolence messages.
