Somizi Celebrates Bafana Bafana’s 3rd Position at AFCON. Although South Africa did not take the ultimate first at the African Cup of Nation, the team did very well. . Throughout the tournament, Bafana Bafana gave it their best. Sadly the squad lost on penalties to arch-rivals, Nigeria during the semi-finals.
Before the tournament, most people wrote Bafana Bafana off, considering how the team has been doing lately internationally. Advancing to the next leg, Bafana Bafana beat African giants Morocco, 2-0, and in the quarterfinals they beat Cape Verde in a hectic penalty shoot out.
Sadly Bafana Bafana lost to Nigeria in the semi-finals. This loss meant team was going to contest for a third-place finish for the first time in 26 years against DR Congo. The good news is that Bafana managed to beat DR Congo, claiming the 3rd position. Moreover our shot-stopper, Ronwen Williams was voted the Ecobank Best Goalkeeper for his heroics with the bronze medalists. In addition to finishing third in the competition, Bafana Bafana’s bronze medal is accompanied by the Fair Play Air Cote d’Ivoire Team.
Somizi, who has been among celebrities hyping the team, is all excited. The media personality and overall entertainer is happy that the team rose against all odds, to claim Bronze medal.
“Me as a 🇿🇦 right now after afcon. Bronze position has never felt so good. Not coz we settling for less. But because Bafana Bafana is the most improved team of the tournament. The rose against all odds including us not believing in them. They won the best team award. Player of the tournament. And and and. So yes I’m on cloud 9 right now. @bafanabafanarsa,” Somizi said.
