DJ Sbu Shares Zahara’s Memorial Service Details
DJ Sbu Shares Zahara’s Memorial Service Details. Immediately after it was announced that Zahara is no more, DJ Sbu topped social media trends. This is because of the relationship that the two have had over the years, while Zahara was still alive.
The multi- award winning singer and songwriter was discovered and sort of mentored by DJ Sbu. After signing a record deal with TS Records, her debut album, Loliwe (2011), went double platinum. Her second album, Phendula (2013), produced three chart-topping singles “Phendula”, “Impilo”, and “Stay”. Zahara’s third album, Country Girl (2015), was certified triple platinum. Following her departure from TS Records, she signed a record deal with Warner Music. Her fourth album, Mgodi (2017), was her best-selling album and was certified platinum, while her fifth album, Nqaba Yam (2021), peaked at number 1 on iTunes.
Just like many artists in SA, Zahara’s musical journey wasn’t all rosy. Although she was at some point the most selling artist, she was not making that much. Because of this, she and DJ Sbu, have not been on good terms for years. She accused the DJ and Thembinkosi “TK” Nciza (who were her record label executives at her former label, TS Records) of exploiting her. In 2019, the songstress claimed she did not receive royalties from her former bosses for her debut album Loliwe. The album sold over 500 000 copies and won her several awards.
Again during her 2021 interview with MacG and Sol Phenduka on Podcast and Chill, Zahara revealed that TS Records owed her millions of rands. Her feud has been ongoing, with each party claiming the other is not being truthful. In 2021, DJ Sbu fired back at Zahara saying he “built” himself from “nothing”.
This is why when Zahara passed away Monday evening, DJ Sbu and TK Nciza trended. Many social media users labelled Sbu a bad person, who made Zahara suffer. Well, breaking his silence, Sbu shared Zahara’s memorial service details on his social media platforms. He also closed the comments section, possibly to avoid nasty comments.
