Radio Personalities Mourn Veteran Broadcaster Grant Shakoane #RIPGrantShakoane

Radio Personalities Mourn Veteran Broadcaster Grant Shakoane. Yet again, death steals one of South Africa’s most prominent personalities. The nation woke up to the sad news that former Metro FM DJ Grant Shakoane has passed away. A week ago, fellow radio broadcaster Tim Modise indicated that Shakoane was battling for his life in a Johannesburg hospital. Thursday morning Modise, shared another post, where he sadly announced that Shakoane is no more.

Shakoane started his journey on radio first as a translator at an advertising agency working at the SABC, before he decided to audition for a job on air at the broadcaster. He set the blueprint for radio and it is due to his work that today, we revere Soul music connoisseurs like Wilson B Nkosi. Not much is known about Shakoane in this generation. However, in the 1980s, the man was revered for his Soul Sunday radio shows on MetroFM.

Affectionately known to his listeners as Mr “Shebabadoo shebaba”, Shakoane graced the mic in the 80s on Metro FM, hosting the popular soul and RnB show on a Sunday. He also hosted a show on Vuma FM. Shakoane also appeared on popular SABC1 drama, Skeem Saam.

Details around his death are still unknown at this stage. Our sincere condolences go to his wife Albertina Shakoane, the entire family, as well as loved ones and fans.

Lebo Tleane.
