Social Media Reacts to Mdumiseni Zuma’s 12 Years Imprisonment for Instigating the July 2021 Civil Unrest

Social Media Reacts to Mdumiseni Zuma’s 12 Years Imprisonment for Instigating the July 2021 Civil Unrest. Going to jail when the festive season is upon us, must be the worst kind of pain. Mdumiseni Zuma definitely understands this very well, because he just got a hectic prison sentence. While many are planning their holiday moves, he on the other hand, has to thinks about the 12 years ahead, behind bars.

The 36 year old man, who hails from Nkandla became famous in July 2021 when he made a video of himself at the Brookside Mall.

The video which was in isiZulu translates to, “Well, comrades as you had sent me, can you see how quiet the mall is? They have closed at Brookside. If they dare open, we will arrive at 6 in the morning to check if they have opened. If they are open, we are going to destroy here. We are going to cause destruction here. We do not want any person … working tomorrow.

It is shut down everywhere, the entire KZN. ‘Maritzburg, we don’t want anything. We are closing. If they dare open here, we are coming in tomorrow.”

His social media fame turned into the worst case scenario when Zuma was now tried in court as an instigator. During the trial, he testified that he was drunk when he made the video and it was a prank. Zuma has been sentenced by the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court to an effective 12-year prison term for inciting the July unrest in KwaZulu-Natal in 2021.

This has sparked a conversation on social media, with many feeling for Zuma. The Economic Freedom Fighters Leader Julius Malema is among those who are not in favor of the judgement. He stated that that he will be investigating whether Zuma received proper legal representation.
