Gareth Cliff Labeled a Racists for His Remarks On Minister Naledi Pandor
Gareth Cliff Labeled a Racists for His Remarks On Minister Naledi Pandor. There are a number of highly opinionated media personalities, and Gareth Cliff is one of them. But sometimes though, there is a thin line between having an opinion, and just not being a nice person.
In numerous occasions, Gareth has found himself in trouble over what comes out of his mouth. The former Idols SA judge was once suspended from the show for posting an allegedly racist remark on Twitter. In January 2016, Gareth however won a court case to be reinstated back as a judge.
Joining a growing number of broadcasters who want to be more free with their content, Gareth launched CliffCentral. In 24 October 2021, Nando’s terminated their sponsorship, after 5 years of Cliff’s show, The Burning Platform, broadcast on CliffCentral. This was following outrage over comments made by Gareth as host. The media personality described Mudzuli Rakhivhane’s experiences of racism as “anecdotal” and “unimportant”.
Despite all of this, Gareth still shares his opinions, no matter how unpopular, publicly. This time around he took on Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Naledi Pandor. The minister announced South Africa’s withdrawal of its diplomats from Israel, in a media briefing , and she wore a headscarf.
Gareth posted the picture of Minister Naledi wearing her scarf, and captioned it: “When the best you can come up for Halloween is to dress up as a turd.”
This did not sit well with a lot of people who feel Gareth has gotten away with being a racist for far too long. They dragged him on Twitter, and his responses on his Insta stories, show that he is not moved by the trolls at all.
