Using Her Own Experience With Her Father Phumeza Mdabe Preaches the Power of Forgiveness
Using Her Own Experience With Her Father Phumeza Mdabe Preaches the Power of Forgiveness. “When a deep injury is done to us, we never recover until we forgive.” As much as forgiveness is a personal choice, when we let go of every wrong we have done, we become free ourselves.
Phumeza Mdabe knows this very well, as she recently reconnected with her father. Her father abandoned her at birth, and never wanted to do anything with her. The talented actress and TV personality shared her sad story on Abandoned, TV show. As the host, Phumeza used the final episode, to go on her own search for her father. Her mother passed away when she was in Grade 10 and her step father, who treated her as his own, stepped in and played the role of both parents to Phumeza and her three siblings.
Her biological father denied her at birth, and has never been a part of her life. Phumeza only met him once in her teens. All that she wanted was for her children to know their German roots. After coming across his address, Phumeza took the initiative to go to her father’s house in Eastgate, Johannesburg. She was sadly met with hostility, and her dad didn’t even bother to come and meet her.
I’ll forever have a void about that part of myself. To cope, I’ve learnt to forget about him and shut him out of my thoughts,” she said.
In a pleasant twist of events, it seems as if Phumeza and her dad have reconciled. She recently shared an emotional video with him, captioned beautiful. A couple of days later, Phumeza shared a beautiful message of forgiving.
“I don’t know who needs to hear this but it’s just coming out of my finger tips as I type. Maybe also, I’m still coming out of the bubble of meeting with the man who was a part of bringing me here🤷🏽♀️,” she said.
She also emphasized the importance of forgiveness, when someone does you wrong. As humans, we also err to other, Phumeza advised to apologize sincerely if that’s the case.
“May God always keep my heart as it is. May I never change because of what life throws at me. This is my prayer daily. It’s so important to look into your own heart and be able to recognize if you’re not the one causing others pain and crying fowl. It’s also important to learn to forgive sincerely. Let’s check in on ourselves with God and be honest with ourselves. It hurts when one realizes that hey, I’m actually the one who is the bad person here. But once you recognize it and accept it, forgive yourself and do better. If you can, apologize to the next person, even better. Trust me, you won’t loose an arm😄And if someone apologizes to you. Be sincere and forgive and leave it in the past. Let’s work on ourselves to be better. No one is perfect. This way, even the next generation will be and do better.”
