Thando Thabethe Opens Up About Tough Lessons As She Celebrates Her SAFTA Win
Thando Thabethe Opens Up About Tough Lessons As She Celebrates Her SAFTA Win. It’s one thing being nominated for an award, but going on to win that award is massive. Thando Thabethe knows this joy very well, as she recently bagged a South African Film and Television Awards, Golden Horn.
A month ago, the award winning media personality, actress, DJ, reality show star and entrepreneur was all excited over her SAFTAs nominations. Thando was nominated for her roles on two major shows, House Keepers and How to Ruin Christmas: The Baby Shower. She walked away as the Best Actress in A TV Comedy, for her role as Beauty Sello, in How to Ruin Christmas.
“To say I’m elated would be putting it lightly!!!
This season of how to ruin was particularly special!!!
I was sooo overwhelmed last night that I didn’t get to share a very special story…,” Thando said.
Her special story though, is a deep one as it involves her late brother, Sibu Thabethe. Sibu was shot dead in an armed robbery, an incident that has affected his family and loved ones, including Thando. Shooting the birthing scene on How to Ruin Christmas: The Baby Shower opened wounds for her, as this was on Sibu’s birthday. However, Thando got to learn that one can laugh through the worst pain.
“This show taught me how to laugh through some of the greatest pain!!!
The birthing scene for one, was one of the most challenging…we shot it on the 28th of June, my late brothers birthday!!! I was very much in my feels… but you @ferry_jele held my hand through that day.. and on this day I learnt what it means to take your pain and turn it into art… comedy even 😂!,” Thando said.
