Everyone has been looking forward this year’s SA Music Awards, which were set to take place in KwaZulu Natal Province. ThE annual event honors the country’s finest music talent over two days in key categories, as they battle for the South African industry’s highest honor, a statuette at the South African Music Awards. Nominees also take the stage by storm with a series of epic, never-to-be-repeated performances, as the nation watches SA’s finest talent at work.
The 29th SAMAs were made possible by the generous support of Tourism KwaZulu-Natal, South African Music Performance Rights Association, CAPASSO, Republic of South Africa Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa, SABC 1, SAMRO and ViB Mobile.
In a shocking turn of events, the hosts are withdrawing. The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs has canceled as hosts. The decision was announced by the department’s MEC, Siboniso Duma on Wednesday during a press conference. According to the KZN government, there are more pressing priorities they need to fund.
