Lemogang Tsipa to Make His Anticipated Shaka iLembe Debut. The time that many have been waiting for is finally here. Shaka iLembe viewers will get to see the lead character Shaka Zulu, all grown in the next episode.
Set in the 1700s, Shaka Ilembe tells the story of the iconic black leader’s early childhood through to adulthood. The drama series takes its name from the legendary Zulu king, Shaka Zulu, who serves as a powerful symbol throughout the narrative. The influence of Shaka’s legacy is felt in the region, and his story is interwoven with the lives of the main characters, creating a captivating historical and cultural context.
The two key actors playing Shaka are the incredibly talented Lemogang Tsipa (adult king) and newcomer Ntando Zondi (Prince Shaka). Nomzamo Mbatha plays Queen Nandi, the revered mother of Shaka. Ntando has been holding the reigns as young Shaka, winning the hearts of viewers. Many see a star in him, who has a very bright future ahead.
Seasoned actor and musician Lemogang, will now continue with the role. He plays both the younger and older version of the character, dropping to 68kg to capture teen Shaka. Lemogang had a month to gain the weight back and go up to 76kg. To achieve this his breakfast consisted of six eggs and two sausages, muesli, yogurt, and fruit. His lunch would include 500g rice and 250g chicken, and he’d have protein shakes all day.
Since he is half Pedi, half Tswana, Lemogang’s casting has risen eyebrows. Some feel the role should have been given to a Zulu actor.But hey, the man was born in Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal.
“Excited for this coming Sunday uShaka uyakhula,” he announced excitedly.
