Check Out How SA Celebs Are Celebrating Banyana Banyana’s Iconic Win. For a day the country can forget all the problems we are faced with which includes load shedding, gas explosions, petrol price hikes among others. Banyana Banyana has just made history at the on going 223 FIFA Women’s World Cup, hosted jointly by Australia and New Zealand.
This morning, the national women soccer team beat Italy 3-2. This means the have qualified for Round 16. Goals by Hildah Magaia and Thembi Kgatlana, along with an own goal from Benedetta Orsi, ensured victory for Banyana.
The team’s next match is against the Netherlands on Sunday (04:00 SA time). Banyana Banyana will go into it full of confidence and knowing that they can pose problems for any side with their pace, passion and quality.
South African Football Association (SAFA) President Dr Danny Jordaan led the praises for Banyana Banyana after the team made history by qualifying for the second round of the FIFA Womenβs World Cup for the first time.
βWe would like to congratulate our girls for making history and bringing joy not only to 60 million South Africans, but to the African continent as a whole,β he said.
In his response to the win President Cril Ramaphosa said, “Congratulations to @Banyana_Banyana on your victory against Italy and securing our spot in the final 16. You have lifted our spirits and made us immensely proud. Bring the cup home!“
