Anele Mdoda Urges TV Newsreaders to Stick to One Look In Terms of Hairstyles
Anele Mdoda Urges TV Newsreaders to Stick to One Look In Terms of Hairstyles. Back in the day most female newscasters had more or less the same hair. But nowadays newsreaders are more liberated, and choose to wear their hair how they want, and change it quite often.
Hair isn’t the only way in which women are held to high aesthetic standards on TV, but it’s one of the most shapeable and ubiquitous elements of the newscaster uniform. Anchors and reporters, are often advised to wear their hair down, in a smooth style that hits at the collarbone or above. Updos and complicated styles are considered a no, as are drastic color changes.
One person who believes that newsreaders should stick to one look is Anele Mdoda. The multi-award winning media personality stated that news is about consistency, familiarity and trust, hence sticking to a look is advisable. Anele is against sisters changing wigs ever now and then, as it affects the credibility of what the do.
“Unpopular opinion. Newsreaders on TV really need to stick to a look. News is about consistency, familiarity and trust. Changing wigs everyday shame… Hayi it’s not making sure. In your own time wig it ghel but on the desk…please,” Anele said.
As it is the case with man hair debates, Anele’s opinion was met with different views. There are those who agree with her, citing that the likes of Leanne Manas, Mam Noxolo Grootboom and Mam Linda Gqomfa wore the same look back in the days. One person on the comment section added that changing looks constantly can be distracting.
However, there are those who feel that Anele is oppressing others. One said if changing her wig every week and people notice it then that’s also consistency.
