Ntsiki Mazwai Defends the Pricing of Her Bead Work Items
Ntsiki Mazwai Defends the Pricing of Her Bead Work Items. Ntsiki Mazwai is a talented poet, musician, media personality and social activist known for her outspoken views on various societal issues. What many don’t know about her, is that she is also a fashion entrepreneur, with her own designs.
Ntsiki is the brain child behind, House Of Mobu, a couture bead work brand, that makes mostly custom bead work outfits and accessories. She began making bead art while studying Diploma in Marketing Management at the IMM Graduate School. The entertainer was then a first-year student living near a bead shop. She sold her art to friends and schoolmates before her elder sister, Thandiswa Mazwai, began promoting her. Often at times, Thandiswa takes on the stage, rocking House of Mobu designs.
“Mobu” is the SeSotho meaning mud. The concept of the name is derived from the mud houses that many African people still have as homes. To live so close to the land, and having the Earth surround you as a symbol of being in sync with nature.
Although the brand has been around for years, it is important for people to be frequently reminded of this side of Ntsiki. This helps to bring in new customers and retain existing ones. On that note, Ntsiki has just taken to Twitter to urge tweeps to lure customers. She asked potential customers t make orders, and revealed that her tops start at a cool R3k.
Well, as it is always the case with consumers, one was not happy about the steep pricing. “If I had a better understanding I can justify my spending on cheaper options,” the person said.
In her response, Ntsiki said, “Same reason Lv is R100 000 because that is the price.” Fair enough!
